Spring will be here soon

Today is groundhog day. Groundhog Day is a holiday celebrated on February 2nd in the United States. Today, the Punxsutawney Phil, America’s favorite groundhog, predicted an early spring when he failed to see his shadow at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. I don’t know if I would totally believe in this but I cannot wait for Spring. Today was very cold and windy. I did not like it at all. It is unusual here in Southern California. Now, I have a stuffy nose. Well, back to Groundhog day, according to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter-like weather will soon end. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks. Phil did not see his shadow, that means Spring is coming very soon. On the way to my destination today, I saw some beautiful flowers blooming on the road. So, I thought spring will be here before we know it.

Christmas

"Christmas Tree"Christmas will be here before we know it. Oh boy, time runs fast. I always get excited about this event as the song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year, with the kids jingle belling and everyone’s telling you be of good cheer. It’s the most wonderful time of the year”. Isn’t it the most wonderful time of the year? It commemorates the birth of our savior Jesus Christ.

It’s time to have Christmas tree at home. It would seem right to some people to put a lot of fancy decorations on their tree. Why do we have a Christmas tree? When did it start? I was really curious how this Christmas tree started. Of course, it’s a tree (duh). But how did it start? Christmas trees are believed to have originated in Germany. Legend has it back in the 7th century a monk used a Fir tree to describe the holy trinity of God (God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit) to the German people. And it was in a triangular shape. From then on, people started to idolize and venerate the Fir tree as God tree. Eventually, the tree became symbol of Christianity. And on 1535 Martin Luther made a small Christmas tree lit with candles. He symbolized the candles as Jesus came down from the stars to bring us eternal life.

Nowadays, some people have Christmas trees in their homes for ornamental purposes while some people have their Christmas trees to simply commemorate the birth of our Lord Jesus. Well, whatever the purpose is, I always think Christmas trees are beautiful.

Christmas is the season of giving

Time runs fast. We are already in December. This year 2008 is about to end. I could hardly believe that time runs fast. I am looking forward to next year. Christmas is in the air. The stores will be packed with shoppers. Traditionally, Christmas is the season of giving and sharing. But for me, you don’t have to wait until Christmas to share your blessings with other people or your loved ones. And you don’t have to spend a lot this holiday. I’ve known some people who would spend thousand dollars for the holidays. They panic and force themselves to spend a lot of money for this event and then later, they became broke and experience a post-holiday stress. You can give anytime you want to as long as you have something to give to your loved ones or most especially, those who are needy. Christmas commerates the birth of Jesus and is all about remembering Him as our savior.

Are you ready for holiday shopping? Holiday shopping is such a big deal to most people. In shopping, you have to make a shopping list and a practical financial plan to avoid the post-holiday headache. What I usually do:

* List the people I plan to buy gifts for including the type of gifts and the budget.

* I usually include expenditure for wrappings, greeting cards and postage.

* I shop around and look for affordable prices.

Holiday season is coming up soon. After Thanksgiving Day, we are going to feel the Holidays in the air. By the way, I would like to get some new return address labels for this coming holiday season. Customarily, holiday season is the season of sending cards to long-distance relatives and friends. I would like to have custom address labels for sending cards because it would definitely save me time from writing down my address. And plus, address labels are tidy and neat. They are efficient and easy to use. Custom address labels doesn’t have to be just ordinary white label, you can make it attractive by being creative and plan your own personalized address labels. I looked up some sites that offer custom and personalize address labels; I really liked the designs and templates. I really want to order soon.

Time runs fast. It is the month of April. April is the fourth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar or in our calendar. According to history, April was used to be the second month of the Roman calendar 700 BC. It was before January and February was added. And then, it became the fourth month in 450 BC. The name April is derived from the name Aprilis. The word Aprilis means “to open” – being the season when trees and flowers begin to open.
