Spam email
I get spam email every now and then. I hate spam email. They are very annoying. I just like the other day; I received an email stating that it was the IRS. It sounds so fishy. In terms of spam email, we should always be cautious and aware of phishy emails playing to be from a legitimate trader, vendor, bank, organization, or government agency. These emails more often than not, ask you to certify your personal information. And typically, they use common statements such as, your account will be closed, there is an order for something has been placed in your name, your information has been nowhere to be found due to technical problems and verify your identity by submitting your SSN, they would say that they are the fraud department ask to verify your information because they suspect you may be a victim of identity theft, a state lottery commission and requested your bank information to deposit their prize money into your account. So, be cautious about spam email.
Virus-tainted spam that aim Facebook users
Do you have a Facebook? I love Facebook. I cannot help myself to check Facebook every day. It is such a great concept. But as a Facebook user, I have to be careful with hackers that target passwords. I just read in the news there are many hackers that flooded on the net with virus-tainted spam that aim Facebook users. These hackers send emails to recipients that their Facebook passwords have been reset. The email contains a convincing power to click a link to obtain new login information. Once you opened the attachment or link, it automatically downloads malicious software in your computer. It included a program that steals passwords. Facebook now warns users about their scam email and advised users to delete the said email. So, be careful with this email. Protect your information and your computer.
What is tinyURL?
What is a tinyURL? TinyURL is a web service that offers short aliases for redirection of long url (Uniform Resource Locator). The TinyURL service permits and lets you to enter a long URL. It converts a long url to a short link. But the downside of it is it might bring in a potential problem. Some said that it is a dirty trick. And it is hard right away nail a link as suspicious when they mouseover a link to see where it actually goes. In other words, you cannot tell if the site or tinyurl is safe or malicious site.
To avoid being scammed, you can check the url without clicking the link. You can copy the link to the clipboard and paste it into your browser’s address bar, or you may type it in directly. Then type ‘preview’ before the address, in this case, the tinyURL becomes http://preview.www.tinyur.com/….Then hit enter to see the preview page, and you’ll see the full URL.
So, be careful with tinyURL sites.
Back up your computer files
I am going to send my folks another computer this month. I am pretty excited about it. I am pretty they are going to like it. I still have to order a recovery disk online so if anything happens with th
e computer or if they need to reformat the computer they can just do it by themselves. And I would also include a flash drive. You know, we can loss data in our computer anytime due to power interruption, natural disaster, virus, Trojans or malware, computer failure, etc. It is very important to have a back up in a flash drive. Backing up your data should be the top priority of computer maintenance. You should backup data of your photos, files, documents, music, videos, school and work projects, software or records, as soon as you saved them in your computer. Think about information and data you could lose anything. It will surely ruin your day!
