New Year celebration
New year is just two days away. The celebration of the New Year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first practiced in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon. The Babylonian New Year celebration lasted for eleven days. Moreover, in 153 BC, the Roman senate, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the New Year.
Traditionally, it was thought that one could affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by what they did or ate on the first day of the year. It has become common for people to celebrate the first few minutes of a brand new year in the company of family and friends. Parties often last into the middle of the night after the ringing in of a new year. It was once believed that the first visitor on New Year’s Day would bring either good luck or bad luck the rest of the year. Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes “coming full circle,” completing a year’s cycle. Even the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year’s Day will bring good fortune. In the U.S. celebrate the New Year by consuming black-eyed peas. Black-eyed peas and other legumes have been considered good luck in many cultures. Cabbage is another “good luck” vegetable that is consumed on New Year’s Day by many. Cabbage leaves are also considered a sign of prosperity, being representative of paper currency.
A place for mom
Life has become very busy these days. Days have changed at some point where we could hardly find time to spend quality time to our family, most especially to our old parents. I don’t know what’s going happen when my parents get old, weak and helpless. As you know, I am not really in favor of sending them to a home care, but if I have to do it, then I would probably do it. My mom is not very old yet but I have to plan for her future. I already have a family of my own to take care and I don’t think I would be able to take care of her when she reaches old and weak age. I would like to find a place for my mom when she is older. I have to make sure that she will be well taken care of. There are many choices I can find on the net. I would like to find a senior care close to where I live so I could visit her every now and then. I want to make sure that the facility can meet all her needs and wants.
By the way, I found a site called www.aplaceformom.com. I want to share this site to you guys in case you are looking for a place for your older mom or parents. That site offers free senior living recommendation and help you find the suitable home environment. They will help you find the best care facilities or living home according to your preference and needs. They will help you find a licensed and accredited home care for your elderly loved ones. Anyhow, when you find one, you should investigate and observe the treatment that employees offer the patients, general cleanliness of the facility, the kitchen, rooms, the quality of activities and entertainment, and of course, the overall service provided to patients.
Innocent Day
Today is the Day of the Innocent or El Día de Los Santos Inocentes. It falls on every 28th of the month December. It is the Spanish equivalent of pril Fool’s Day. And, just like its counterpart, jokes abound and tricks will be played. At Ibi, near Benidorm on the Costa Blanca on the Spanish mainland, the tradition is for the workers from the local toy factory (in fancy dress) to take over the administration of justice in the streets from 9 a.m. to midday on this date. Any ‘fines’ they collect (extort) will go to charities and, they are not subtle. They have been known to handcuff the bank manager and have removed the wheels from a vehicle. Even the police won’t stop them.
December 28 in the Catholic Church commemorates the assassination of all the male babies: thus The Innocent Saints, on Herod’s orders in a vain attempt to kill the child Jesus. Since the Middle Ages, the sacrilegious have remembered this mournful event with humour and, the jovial tradition has continued.
New Year is just three days away
New Year is coming. It is just three days away. Wow, time flies so fast. I am very excited about next year because I have a lot of plans. Do you have some plans or New Year’s resolutions yet? Well, in my case, one of the things that I would like to do next year is planting some flowering trees, focus on my business, and family. Regarding planting, it would be nice to have some pear trees or some flowering trees. I remember my grandma’s flowering trees before. It was really fun to expect some fruits at certain season. You get to eat fresh and natural fruits.
4 days to New Year 2011!
It is 4 days to New Year 2011! I am excited to embrace and face the year 2011. Year 2011 will be totally different to me as I am going to welcome our baby boy on around February or March. It will be different from the past years, as I become a mom for the first time. I am excited and at the same I feel nervous. Before this year ends, we want to give him a name. I hope we could come up with a very nice name. This baby is so precious to me and I am very thankful and grateful to God for this wonderful blessing.
