Take care of your heart!
What are the bad and good cholesterol? Cholesterol is a type of fat that is naturally produced by our body. It also exists in meat and dairy products like eggs, cheese and milk. Cholesterol plays an important role in our body. But too much of it is bad. Cholesterol mixes with certain protein in our body that transports it through our bloodstream. When cholesterol combines with protein, it is called HDL (high density lipoproteins known as good) or LDL (low-density proteins known as bad). Too much LDL in the bloodstream is bad. The LDL builds up in the arteries. And it can cause arteriosclerosis, heart attack, or stroke. However, the HDL protects against heart attack. It transports cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver. There are foods that can increase HDL or good cholesterol like raw onions, whole grains, oat bran, brown rice, fruits, legume and some foods rich fibers. Sources of LDL are hydrogenated oil, vegetable oil, shortening, refined sugar, flour, egg yolk, liver, kidney and some animal organs. Most importantly, exercise daily. Take care of your heart or it might stop taking care of you.
