It has been raining here in San Diego, California since this morning.  It is going to rain the whole day according to the weather forecast. I don’t like rain at this time of the year because it is cold. In time like this, I hate going to the store or anywhere else. But I guess, we are pretty fortunate to not have snow here. Many places in the country (U.S.) are experiencing snow – people can’t go out of the house.  My mother in-law, who lives in Oregon, don’t want to go out of the house. She said it is very cold and the road is slippery.  She’s not even done with the holiday shopping yet. One of friends in Oregon sent us a picture of snow, see photo.honda

Screensavers

Screensavers were first created to protect a computer monitor from phosphor burn-in. Early monitors had problems with the same image being displayed over and over for long periods of time. The phosphors, used to make the pixels in the display, glow at a constant rate for such a long period of time that they could discolor the glass surface of the monitor. This discoloration could be visible as a faint image overlaying whatever else was shown on the screen. Advances in technology and the creation of energy-saver monitors have virtually eliminated the need for screensavers.

Having said that, most of us still use screensavers. The most common reason is for entertainment, they just look good, however, you can also use a screensaver for security. Some screensavers can be set up with a password so you can walk away from computer and know it is safe. That’s why it is called screensavers.

a173_basket2This basket building is located in Newark, Ohio. Isn’t it great and creative? The world’s largest basket, and it’s also the seven-story corporate headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company. I was amazed when I saw this building in the net. I thought it was just made up but it is real. The Longaberger Company is a manufacturer of handcrafted maple wood baskets and offers other home and lifestyle products, including pottery, wrought iron, fabric accessories and specialty foods.

The Cancer Research Institute warned the public to limit cell phone use because of the possible risk of cancer. People are advised to keep the phone away from the head and use the bluetooth, speaker phone or a headset. They warn against using cell phones in public places such as a bus because it exposes others to the phone’s electromagnetic fields. Cell phones emit radiofrequency energy– it is a type of radiation that is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Some studies are being done to see if there is a link between it and tumors of the brain and central nervous system but there is no definitive link between the two. This is just a precaution, it is up to the individual. But “ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”
